Re: How To Store And Display Awards.

These really are something else.
Is it just me or does Stalin look more like Emperor Franz Joseph?

Re: How To Store And Display Awards.

Well, he looks like anything but stalin. Keeping in mind the movie came out during the coldwar and before we had any of the great references we have now, I wonder if their source was the 1945 Army pamphlet "Our Red Army Ally". Here's a couple of pages

Fabulous stuff. No info for Glory and Lenin entitles HSU and not the other way round.
Order of Lenin? Looks more like Order of the Godfather.

Another taste for the cloth guys...with a picture of the most highly decorated private in the red army. Warning: these should not to be considered factual statements. Also apparently officers always wear spurs...even in the field

It's a amazing what you can do with a minimal outlay, an old frame, a little bit of skill and a few good items.
I think I've seen very similar frames at IKEA, they are quite cheap there.

Re: How To Store And Display Awards.

Guys,

Another way of displaying.

20130421_114127.jpg

20130421_114156.jpg

20130421_114229.jpg

These frames are pretty awesome, if you want to store them away, simply close the frame and store them on a shelf like a book.

Hope you like them,

Tom

Re: How To Store And Display Awards.

I'd like to do something like that with some of the awards in the collection. How flexible is the frame for housing the various awards and in differing numbers?

Having something that can be "rotated" in and out also combats the lack of wall space.

Re: How To Store And Display Awards.

The frames are very deep and could accommodate any award easily.

For the screwbacks i just drilled a hole through the thin chipboard backing and popped it through.

You could probably fit 3 suspension medals across and 2 high if you took out the cardboard border, obviously more if they were screwbacks.

£3.60 a piece at Debenhams at the moment while stocks last!

Re: How To Store And Display Awards.

Well I got 10 of those frames so we'll how to see how that works out.

Being inspired and the such I made templates to print out as part of an A5 (the size of these frames) display.

I have done a plain boilerplate, an "aged" one and an example piece (that I knocked up in about a minute flat in paint).

The font used to fill in the entries is 1942 Report Font | dafont.com which works best at size 12. Of course you don't have to use the font - you can fill in the information by hand if you wish.

I will be making A4 boilerplates for the consumption of the forum later.

The sizes of the boilerplates are 26.4kb (white) and 107kb ("old) so they are here in their full glory. 550 pixels by 750 pixels.

Re: How To Store And Display Awards.

My collection has started creeping into other areas of my house and I need to nip this in the bud.
Can someone please PM me a site or epay seller who sells single plastic medal sleeves that wont turn my medals to green mush?

Much obliged!
