Thanks fellas, that was quick!
It was being worn by an enginering colonel photogrpahed in 1962. He was also wearing the Order Red Banner of Labour, Medal for Military Merit, Victory Over Germany Medal, 30th & 40th Anniversay of the Armed Forces Medal and 20 Year Blameless Service Medal. On the right breast are the "BIA" military engineering accademy and an Excellant construction worker badge.

Chinese-Soviet Friendship Medal
G'day,
Does anyone know how many variants there are of the Chinese-Soviet Friendship Medal? I have one in my collection that has a plain reverse. At a recent militaria show I had seen one with a date of 1951 and Chinese writing as part of the reverse.

Here are a few out of my collection. I don't know the exact variations, but these are some various types as issued to Soviet officers in the 50's. The top three belonged to an Air Force Colonel, who was an instrumentation specialist, the bottom two belonged to a tankist Colonel. You can see the various dates.
Take care --Dave |

Seen this one for sale on the web as a Type 2.
Note the different type of ribbon. I'm quite suspicious about the stars that seem soviet ones added... Your opinion ? BTW, the ribbon also looks like a "Medal for the Defence of Moscow"'s one... Ch. |

Yep, that's a Defense of Moscow ribbon, with two junior officer rank stars stuck through the ribbon. It was most certainly done by another collector... I doubt any veteran would have forgotten that he only had one star and not two!

Thanks for the replies !
Thank you Dave and Christophe for your photos and info. Does show me that there are variations in dates. None of the many books I have on Soviet medals even makes reference to this particular medal. I have never seen any official references about this medal. I only know what I have found out by talking to other collectors of Soviet Militaria.

Associated doc.
Just to mention this associated doc :
"Soviet document for Medal of Sino-Soviet Friendship, 1953. Contains translation of the Chinese document awarded with the medal on behalf of Chairman Mao. Shows Soviet military unit stamp and signed by the unit commander. Issued on 23 February 1953 (Red Army Day)." (Pic. from the seller website). Ch. |
