As far as I know real caviar is the eggs of a fish called sturgeon.
Fake caviar is simple the eggs of some other fish, nothing too complicate

Your right about China, a quick look on e*** let everybody know theres a lot of cheap stuff from there... I have a friend who lived in Shangai since 2 years now, he's a video game producer for Ubisoft, 40,000$us/ years + a free home and he actually eat for 1,50$us/ day!!! Financial argument at is best! He told me theres free market everywhere full of junk, fakes and all kind of reproduction. Theres anything you need, from "sign" clothes, to DVD, Video games, Mao stuff, "antique",etc. Even here in Canadian free market we find a lot of that chinese junk..

I also know caviar is strugeon eggs, but I wasn't thinking people actually fake it with othe fish eggs and ink. But when I think about for a moment I realize its a very simple way to make money, if the can sticker is well faked no one will know before they open it...and the sellers will have plenty of time to run away with your money.

vodka

Ch.

As we now know by the fish talk, cavier can be "faked", but so can Vodka. We have warnings every time we are over not to buy Vodka on the street. The same guys who mess with the cavier take genuine Stoly bottles and fill it with vodka made in a bathtub. They always give us the scary stories of people going blind, etc. after being fooled by this bathtub vodka.

Marc,

Really a pity... but these are the rules of the game...
Many thanks.

Back

Hi,

I came back one week ago from a very nice trip in St Petersburg... a real one !!!!

I had time enough to visit / see :
* The Hermitage Museum
* The Dvortsovaya Pl. (Palace Square)
* The Mars Field
* The Church on Spilled Blood
* The Museum of the Defence and Blockade of Leningrad
* The Cruiser Aurora
* The Gostiny Dvor
* The Kazan Cathedral
* The Nevsky Prospekt
* The Peter and Paul Fortress
* The Finland Station
* The House of Soviets
* The Naval Center / Base in Vasilevsky Island
* ...
And I'm sure I forget some other remarkable sites...

Many thanks again to all for your tips and infos.

I have brought back the traditional (real, not faked ) caviar and vodka, as well as some medal books and ribbon bars.

I have mainly come back with more than 300 pictures. I will post some of them in the coming days (don't be afraid, not all the 300 ones !!!).

Cheers.

Ch.

The Admiralty

Here is the gilded spire of the old Admiralty, close to Dvortsovaya pl. (Palace Square).
This is a prime St Petersburg landmark. This is what you can see in the background of the Medal for the Defence of Leningrad.
