Are the "brass" medals just cheap "gold" medals post-war?

Well the answer is they are bronze award and here's why

The medal is in mint condition, 36 years old and has been left in a draw.

Here is one more for silver medal. It has a yellow cover.

Earlier in this thread there was an award card of silver medal and its cover was red.

Also there was an award card for the gold medal and a yellow cover.

Is there some logic in the colours ?

Guys,

As I am slooooooooowly sorting through all the stuff I brought back from St Petersburg, I'll be posting a few bits and pieces.
Here is a First Step Diploma of the 1968 VDNKh awarded to the Central Technical Building Bureau of the River Fleet Ministry of RSFSR. It came with the usual silver VDNKh medal (boxed).
It is the first (and only) time that I have seen such a diploma for an exhibition medal.

I do not have a picture available, but this medal exists in 2 variations:
V1 Frosty fields (the one you have illustrated
V2 Mirror fields

I think that it is a late issue "Small Gold" VSKhV with the gold plating worn out (basically, what they call a 2nd class).

I know this is an old message but didn't notice any feedback in the thread - apologies if there was and I missed it.

These stamps are reminiscent of hallmarks

The 375 might be from an assayer and represent 9Kt gold.

22 karat (.917), 20 karat (.830), 18 karat (.750), 10 karat (.415) and 9 karat (.375).

Interestingly, in the US anything below 10 Kt cannot be called gold!

Attached are scans of the document for this vintage of medal and a scan of the obverse and reverse of the medal.

N.B. I just noticed that there are three small parallel indentations on the bottom of the rim on the reverse. has anybody seen these on other medals of this type?

You are right, the base metal VDNKh medals have small indentations at the bottom on the reverse rim. As far as I can tell, these indicate the class of the medal, as the gilting tends to wear out very rapidly on these:
. Gold medal: 1 indentation
. Silver medal: 2 indentations
. Bronze medal: 3 indentations
