Thanks Alexei, ;)
So Stepan was Bursiks Gunner and Radio Operator on "ZISKA" (T-34/76 version) in the earlier days before he got his own Command.

Last week-end I visited the Normandie-Niemen Museum in Les Andelys (Normandy).

Except two rooms dedicated to Marcel Lefèvre - a native of Les Andelys -, there are not so many items and objects specifically dedicated to the three other French Heroes of the Soviet Union. There are a number of photographs, but not their soviet medals.

I will post later, in an other specific thread, some interesting pics I have taken.

Coming back to Marcel Lefèvre :

Are displayed :

* ML's large award doc for his HSU.
His HSU is the SN 10206, attributed on 4 June 1945. The HSU SN is visible on the doc (see attached pic).

* ML's small identification booklet for the HSU. No SN on it.

* ML's HSU star (a copy with a flat reverse, without any SN).

* ML's Order of Lenin (a copy).

* ML's Order of the Red Banner SN 96 323.

* ML's Order of the GPW 2nd Class SN 19 372.

The Museum responsible I met had no idea where could be the real HSU star and order of Lenin, as well as those of the 3 other Normandie-Niemen HSUs.

I will try to investigate more...

Cheers.

Ch.

Christophe,
That's great info, I've added the number to our list. ;)
It's seems very strange that The Museum has no infomation on the awards of the other French pilots.
Because of the location I'm not suprised that they have concentrated on Marcel though, he is also buried in Les Andelys did you visit his grave?
I can't wait to see the other photo's you've taken.

Eddie.

Thanks Eddie,

I got, thanks to the Museum, a contact number where I hope I can get more information...

The Normandie-Niemen Museum, - even if it is quite small (I live in Paris ;) ) - is very interesting, and very welcoming. I did not warn of my visit and have been very well welcomed... The staff there even opened me key-locked display cases...
But, just for me !!! :D Don't go there and ask for this ;) .

More seriously, I have taken a lot of pics... but not so good !! I'll post the most significant.

Christophe,
I can only wish you the very best of luck with the additional info.
I'm afraid I didn't get any response to the many E-Mails I sent to various addresses regarding the Normandie-Niemen pilots.
Mind you I wrote them in English, this might not have been such a good idea in retrospect.
Still never mind, you can't win 'em all, once again good luck!

Eddie.

Jacques André

Eddie,

Here is a better (?) pic of Jacques André. In fact it is the one I have posted in the Normandie-Niemen thread in the "General Talk" section... but "upgraded".

Ch.

PS : I have another better one, the same as the small one already posted by you. I'll post it later.

Here is another photo of Primo Gibelli in an AVRO 504, the year is 1924. The letter W is Gibelli’s personal emblem. I know it’s not much new info, but I liked the photo.

Kim,
thanks for sharing the photo with us. ;) It doesn't matter how irrelevant pics or info seems, when added to the bigger picture every little bit helps to make the thread more complete and interesting. For example The letter W as Gibelli's emblem, that is totaly new info.
I wonder if his last aircraft before he was killed also had this letter W painted on it?

Eddie.
