Ed,
Are you sure that the stars on the collar are right? They are wartime stars for officer boards  Marc |

stars
Marc,
senior officer-looking stars were used on the M1940 generals tunics for rank; the rank stars for the M1943 boards are the same, but came second from what i have been told (easy to re-use the design). The nicer M1940's were embroidered in rank, but do not show up often! 90% of the M1940 generals i have had in have had these stars, not the embroidered. Sometimes the stars would break and be replaced by collectors with stars from the 1950s and 1960s, but they tend to stand out. If these are replacements, check the front and back of the tab and there should be imprints of the original; if not, then they are probably original. DougD |

So how about some better pictures of that visor? I am more of a hat guy and would like to see some better pics of that if you get the chance. Thanks Clete

Not a great image, but the best the sun-gods would allow (e.g. rather dirty and in need of a brush-up), try this (better can come on request):

Ed,
Since you mentioned it, how about some other shots (cocade details, inside overall, sweatband, part under sweatband) :D Marc |

hat
ed,
its a nice 1940's generals field cap; can be used for display with almost any field or service uniform if you are lacking another generals cap. Nice example. marc, if you have not gotten a copy yet, pick up the middle volume of the Uniforms of the Russian Air Force 3 series set (all three are outstanding); in it there are good examples of the 1940 generals rank stars...if you want to see "bad" stars, keep an eye out on e-bay (or check an old thread here on bad M1940 generals unitoms / tunics) for our favorite seller who often has them on repro M1940 generals pullovers or tunics (though of course sold as real). I am curious as to the measurement of the winged/prop insignia shown on the tunic's collar. Would it be possible to measure it/them in MM and let us know?

Propellor insignia: 20 mm (H) x 18 mm (V) (approximately) (and I measured both, same/same).
The camera batteries (of course) died when about to do cap shots. Await recharging . . . . |
