Medal "Soldier-Internationalist From The Grateful Afghan People".
Hi All
I wonder what you make of these? I have seen several of these documents unissued but never seen one which I *know* to be legit. These two are filled in, but not stamped. Is this normal? Are they real or filled out by someone trying to increase their value? bye for now McL |

Wow!?!
My guess is both fake, I think mine is anyway. I wonder if anyone one else has a card to comrade Rozhedstvyenskii. The Afghans must have really loved him :D The other one I showed (Peresumko) came from someone that everything I have got from them has always checked out, including some rare stuff. Also the document feels more used, not as stiff as the other one which looks and feels brand new. It also came with the medal which has a bit of wear, so you never know I suppose. But I still wonder why no stamp? The Soviets seemed pretty keen on stamps. :) McL |

Gentlemen,
I think all three documents have fake entries. Legit documents have at least one ink stamp (usually two - Russian and Afghany). Alexei |

Tal,
I wouldn't be surprised to see a retired veteran to wear something like this, but such a disregard for regulations for an officer is beyond me  Alexei |

I have an old campaign poster for the late General Lebed. He is wearing an M1993 Airborne General's parade uniform and his Afghan People's medal is on the five-sided hanger.
If even he wore it on such a public poster than it must either be a widely accepted "modification" or an official change in the post-Soviet era. Shawn |

Does anyone out there have a clear photo of an Afghan People's Medal worn according to regulations?

Hello,
It seems that this document is disproportionately difficult to find relative to the award. This also is the case with two other awards of this era, the Soldier-internationalist award and the Chernobyl award. Is there a tremendous quantity of unissued awards on the market, or is are the recipients keeping their documents, but selling the awards? What clues, such as stamps, dates, handwriting would one look for to determine whether a document was filled out by the appropriate authorities, or if one of the many blank documents on the market has been fraudulently filled in later? Thanks, Keith |

Keith,
I think in case of these three many award documents were simply given to the recipients not filled in. I can't really explain why, but this is also sometimes the case with 25th Anniversary of Victory Badge. Alexei |

This is a fantasy ribbon bar offered on ebay. The green and light blue ribbons represent medals from Afghanistan:
