Kashіtsyn, Aleksej Mihailovich, Platoon Commander, 44th Guards Rifle Regiment

Hi guys,

Here's a set I picked up recently. You may have seen it--as it made the rounds, through Eastern and South Europe. It is finally home now. :thumbsup Kind of sad when the family sells everything associated with their veteran--the set not only included his medal docs and order books, but also a Disabled War Veteran ID (Group II), CPSU ID, Marriage certificate, Medical notes, etc..

I am waiting on the research--more info is coming!

Thanks for looking,
George

..putting my USB Microscope to work...

Side note, the set was sent EMS but still took 40 days to get to New York from Bulgaria. The delay was, understandably, a major source of stress towards the end.

Re: Nevsky + Red Banner / Aviator set

George, two things:

First, it may be "sad" that the family of a vet sells his/her awards, but in this case at least they stayed together and weren't sold in pieces and lost to the Four Winds. Besides, you already seem to have more respect for them than the people who originally sold them.

Second, items mailed from Bulgaria are notoriously slow getting to the US. I don't know if it has something to do with customs regulations being similar to RF ones (haven't heard anything like that though), or some other reason, but even the smallest packages with just one little aluminum badge can take 6 to 8 weeks or more to get here. I never understood it since other countries in the same region don't seem to have this problem.

Re: Nevsky + Red Banner / Aviator set

Thanks again guys. Phillip, I agree with you on both counts. It's too bad that the family lets go of the awards, but the person will live on through our collections. I've noticed that about Bulgaria, as well. Like you said, I've had a dime-sized znachok take over a month to get here.

Great looking set.

You are now the care keeper for this small set of larger part of Soviet history. Please share the results of your research when it is completed.

Re: Nevsky + Red Banner / Aviator set

A wonderful set!!!

Altough it's sad that the family sells everything, I personnaly love to have as many documents with the group as I can. You may sometimes find information that even his personnel file won't tell You.

As for the packeges from Bulgaria - I don't know if the problem doesn't lay on Your side of the sea. Altough it's been over a year since I had bought something from Bulgaria, I have never had such trouble - the worst was 2 weeks.
But it's also possible that it's because of the parcels being sent as non-priority. The parcel sent as non-priority will go by sea and this means it won't leave the sea port in the sender's homeland untill the container with the parcels to the USA is full, which indeed may take a month.

Re: Nevsky + Red Banner / Aviator set

According to one known Bulgarian dealer en E., the explanation is as follows:

"Delay (package) Post inbound for USA by temporary Christmas security measure by U.S. Homeland Security Department - This measure has been taken into effect immediately on December 16th 2010, and will be continued until local US authorities will withdraw the restrictions. Since the increased security measures for air transport of mail and postal parcels to the United States, your mail and packages destined for the United States no longer will transported by air. This means a delay in delivery times for your shipments. The transit time is increased by up to a maximum of three-four weeks".

FYI. ;)

Thirded. Dunno why but Bulgarian mail takes a lot of time to get where it's going.

When you get time I respectfully suggest you break down some of the paper over in the Documents section of our forum. I'd especially like to see the Disabled War Veteran ID.
Great group, BTW. :)
