Merchant Fleet Navigator Badge

This badge is in Silver (48mm by 35mm) and awarded to Submariners of Capt rank that had served at sea for long deployments.

Circa 50ties I believe.

The badge comes with different attachments for branch of service.

I take it this guy must have been in a trade with something to do with navigation, as the attachment is a sextant.

My girlfriend having a father who served on Russian submarines really likes this badge..I do!

?

I'am not sure, but is that badge given also to merchant fleets navigating officers?

At least there are two versions: the differences are in the anchor chains.

Jussi-Pekka,

You are right, of course, it is a badge for the Merchant Fleet navigators.

Inquire more

I will enquire more about this which should not be to hard living in a port.

I suppose I could ask for my 5 dollars back...Nah...I think I will keep this fine navigational badge.

Any chance of changing the threads name?

Chris

I saw one of the Merchant Marine machinist badges at the local dealers.
He has no idea what it is, just an interesting Navy badge.
I think he's got $95 on it.
Are they worth any more or less than that?

Eric,

The price is about right. Sometimes you can find this badge for a lot less, because not too many people know what it is. I should also mention that this badge is very commonly faked.

Thanks Alexei!
It's a nice looking badge but I just don't have the funds available for it (got my eye on a Nevesky!).

Is this one of the fakes you mentioned?

Andreas,

I don't know, I am sorry. I have only seen older known original pieces and they were of more "substantial" quality.
