Hersz (Henryk) Tajgman, Dentist/Major, Artillery Training Centre
A small, yet apparently compleate group to an officer that was quite hard to identify, even though the name isn't too common.
It consists of a set of awards and their documents. First, the group (uniform not related) and the Silver Cross of Merit. |

Re: mjr. Hersz (Henryk) Tajgman, dentist, Artillery Training Center
The cross was awarded on 24th July 1946 - I didn't find the act, but it can be for the "Diligent work and excellent duty fullfillment" - at least that's what an act issued a day later awarding some crosses of Merit says. Tajgman is not there, so it may also be a WW2 catch-up or related to the referendum (a lot of officers were awarded for agitation and securing the referendum).
The doc was issued in 1951 indicating that it was a replacement for the temporary certificate. Than we have the "Victory and Freedom medal", the doc is unfortunately missing (since at that time they issued diplomas it could have been misplaced) |

"Armed Forces in service to the Motherland" medal, bronze, 5 years.
The doc indicates it was awarded in 1951. It is, however a date of the award's institution, so he was probably in service a bit longer at that time. Nothing indicates that he got a silver one (10 years), so he probably served shorter than that - ending his service somewere between 1953 and 1955. Not sure what a maximum age for a major was at that time, but likely below 60, 1954 is the maximum date. |

Next is the Soviet Victory over Germany medal - quite a well preserved example on brass attachment device.
It was awarded to him on 24 MAy 1946, the document is signed by the Chief Inspector of Artillery of the Polish Army, division general Czarniawski [Charnyavskiy]. It also gives his patronimik as "Nukhimovich". |

Lastly, there's his Grunwald Badge - apparently made by some engarver workshop, not the state mint.
It was awarded on the 2nd of July 1946, the doc is signed by the head of the Artillery Training Center in Toruń (this must have a name used very shortly, as sources indicate that this pre-war name was not used after the War, with the name being Artillery Officer School from the begginning), brigade general Grochoczyński. Tajgman's father's name is again given as "Nuchim", however the name "Hersz" is changed to "Henryk" - he probably changed the name at some point - it wasn't uncommon among the Jews in post-war Poland. |

Re: mjr. Hersz (Henryk) Tajgman, dentist, Artillery Training Center
I had a hard time finding any information on Tajgman, untill I tried to look for Henryk instead of Hersz.
I have then been able to find a photograph of his gravestone in Jewish cementary in Kraków, which happenst to give his rank, occupation and list of awards (in a little bit mixed order): "Blessed Memory Henryk Tajgman Dentist Born 4.XI.1895 died 10.III.1967 Major of the Polish Army Awarded: Armed Forces in the service to the Motherland medal Silver Cross of Merit Grunwald Badge Victory and Freedom Medal USSR medal for victory over Germany" So, it indicates that this award group is compleate. |
