In the battle for Dimitrovsk-Orlovskij showed himself a steely, decisive mechanised driver. Skilfully drove the vehicle forward even though the vehicle had been hit and a round had passed through the hull and had no commander, the commander had been killed. Skilfully manoeuvred the vehicle assisting the crew to lay down intense fire on the enemy artillery.

For exemplary performance of command assignments is worthy of the awarding of the governmental award the Order "Red Star".
Commander Of The Regiment Guards Lieutenant Colonel Tezikov.

Re: Red Star,0565783,Senior Driver,29th Separate Guards Tank Breakthrough Regiment

Here is the location of Dmitrovsk-Orlovskij. It was liberated on 12th August 1943. Not too far north from the ongoing offensive at Kursk.

His Red Star may well be combat damaged as he continued to be in the firing line and was lightly and severely wounded before being discharged.

The serial 565783 seems rather high for an August 1943 award. I was expecting it to be awarded around April 1944 - Is this a wartime catch up? Did the Breakthrough Regiment have to wait for a resupply of Red Stars?

Ctahh,

He was probably in too much action by the sound of that citation :D to take a break till that awarding time in 44, wartime catch up seems likely to me.

Awesome citation and really drives the point forward that this guy saw some heavy fighting :D congrats :)

15-10-43 the regiment started a breakthrough of the enemy fortified defences and sweeping attack repelling the enemy from prepared defensive boundaries. In these battles to expand the bridgehead on the right bank of the River Dnepr the crew excelled, where the mechanic driver Comrade Il'in, Comrade Il'in showed excellent samples of skilful combinations of fire on the battlefield. Tank was hit, creating difficulty, running out of reserve shells and part of the crew was wounded, but the crew did not waiver and reflected the enemy counter-attacks, giving them the best opportunity to successfully advance to village point Glushets, then Lutava. On account of the joint actions of the crew: One 75mm Gun, Two Weapon Emplacements, Two Mortars and 40 Enemy Soldiers and Officers.

For showing boldness, bravery and courage is worthy of being presented for awarding of the governmental award of the Order "Patriotic War First Class".

Regimental Commander, Guards Lieutenant Colonel Tozikov.

Here is the location of both Glushets and Greater Lutava. Both were on the western bank of the Dnepr which is now an oxbow lake. Just over the river into Belarus from Ukraine.

Luck can only last so long with so many recorded hits on his vehicles.
