Thanks Tal!
So the metal pin/holder and the clip-on ribbons themselves were used during the GPW? I always assumed that most bars were sewn onto the uniforms back in the GPW era.

ribbons
Its an older style. I have had these on older ( can't say for sure WWII) uniforms; smaller ribbons with the light curve, style of pin, etc.

Thanks Doug. I think I'll take a flyer on this one.
If I get it I'll put up some better shots for discussion. :thumbsup He he hee.....won this on eBay just now. Cost a bit more than I wanted but what the heck. Coming from Finland so it might take a while to make it here... :D Mailed from Finland on Monday, in Florida by Saturday afternoon! Gotta love it. :D So, any chance of it being from the WW2 era?

no way to tell 100% if its WWII, but if i had a WWII uniform i'd have no problem adding this as a ribbon set.

The newest addition
I received this in the mail today. I took a flyer on it as the image posted on eBay was very dark. The seller didn't respond to my request for better pictures but I bid on it anyway mostly thinking someone would outbid me. But I guess he didn't give anyone better pix cuz I won this beaut for a high bid of 95 cents!!! :D :p :laff
It measures four and one sixteenth inches wide (104mm) by eleven thirty-secondth inch tall (9mm) Hope you like. I do.

Nice
If I had been paying attention, you wouldn't have gotten it for 95 cents.

Being unemployed for the last 3 months one thing I do is check eBay *every* morning, with my coffee and cigarettes, for new goodies. Lotsa nice stuff out there but I can't bid on 'em cuz I'm nearly broke. :( Are you watching the OG cavalier group?

I am now
Although too rich for my blood with a 12.5K opener. Should be easy to check the SN's and get both verification and a name if someone out there in the forum has the cavalier book.
1st Class: 904 2nd Class 36986 3rd Class 127044 The echoes book shows issue dates for those sn's at about 8/44, 12/44and 5/46 respectively so at least the dates are plausible. |

I was kinda happy about the final price I can tell ya. :)
I really am starting to like these early (thin) bars. The later style, be they cloth mounted or metal-backed, are so common, and so often made up that they don't command any respect (in my eyes) or much of a price. The thin ones, and the plastic and painted bars from the 50s, are still fairly cheap, often authentic, and an undervalued part of Soviet collecting. Having said that I just blew my last chance of ever seeing another 95 cent bar on the e-channel. :chuckle
