Spanish Civil War Pair.
A somewhat ambiguous group, on which more research is needed.
-- Medal for the 50th Anniversary of the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-86 -- Cuban medal for volunteers in the Spanish Civil War Interestingly, it is mounted "Spanish-style". Cuban sent 1,225 volunters to fight for the Spanish republic. Most served in the Español Battalion and, apparently, a few also served in the Abraham Lincoln Battalion. Re: Spanish Civil War pair
Very different. The Spanish Civil war has some real strange commemoratives often from places you wouldn't expect but is often ignored or overlooked by others.
Are these state or organisational awards? It would seem strange to be state awards in this style.

Based on comments I have received off-forum., I am now guessing that both of these are to some degree non-official (these lines are especially difficult to draw in the Cuban case) and are later veterans' awards to survivors. In any case, it has always been my understanding that the Medalla "Combatiente Internacionalista" was awarded officially for service in Spain. |

Re: Spanish Civil War pair
The style of the Medals and the mounting would suggest to me that these are non-official awards made in Spain.
All Castro era official Orders and Medals to date have a Cuban council of state reverse and the Distinctions their relative union emblem. In theory the Medalla "Combatiente Internacionalista" could be awarded but if it ever was to veterans of the Spanish civil War is another thing because of the time frame. Regards Eddie
