Thanks Simon, It's my first one of these badges. I've grown quote fond of it though and would quite like to buy a couple more.

It's good that there is so much information on the award document, it adds a lot of background to such a small and relativley common badge.

The key quality of the Medals of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition over the later Medals of the Exhibition Of Achievements Of The National Economy is the very fact they have the space for the recipients position etc. The reformed "National Economy" documents are very different and don't leave space for any details.

These Agricultural Medals along with many Ministerial Badges (such as those for the five year plans etc.) can offer a considerable about of information on the recipient that other Agricultural/Labour awards awarded by the State (Labour Glory for example) where there is usually only a recipient's name with even the date of one of the many Ukazes obscured.

It is also of note that many of these Agricultural workers (with positions listed on the document) can also be found on "the site", where they can be shown in their war time combat role. Many of these farmers scored notches on their weapons.

Also being "Agricultural" myself, I have participated in and attended many Agricultural "Exhibitions" so know exactly what it is all about. I do enjoy bringing these items "back to the farm".

Hi Marillion,

Welcome to the forum. Your medal appears to be a BRONZE BCXB (VSKhV) medal. This exhibition ran from 1939-40 and then 1954-58. After this it became the BDHX (VDNKh).

The bronze medal is available in several forms:

1. Pinback or screwback
2. With or without an "X" on the tractor grill.

I have attached a document I have for this type of medal which says it is a participation award.

Have a look through the rest of this thread. It contains a great deal of info on these awards.

Yeah, that 'translation' really helps. ;)

His name is Teimuraz Razhdenovich Gachechiladze, senior engineer and machine operator for the main administration of a machine and tractor station and mechanization of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Georgian SSR, who was a participant of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition of 1957.
