Re: KGB and "Egg" Badges
Does she say the group is complete? If so, I'm suspicious. It's possible he didn't get a BM or CSM for his wartime service, but I'd expect to see at least one wartime medal if he was in Guards unit - at the end of the war these were given out pretty liberally. If he was in the war as late as '44 or '45, his first long service medal would have been a CSM for 10 years' service - not the Long Service Medal III Class which didn't come into existence until 1957. Additiionally, eggs were usually given to mid- to senior-level personnel, presumably a position not obtained by our individual from the information you provided.
Could be legitimate, but at first look that's what comes to mind... |

Re: KGB and "Egg" Badges
I won't even begin to pretend to have the knowledge to make a comment based on what was just said, but at least as far as I can see, the MOOP badge is very like to be authentic (bugger about the hilt though:( but I supposed you could replace it with the right copy piece and the skill - so long as you didn't try to pass it off as completely original - just joking of course;)). You are very lucky to have this alone considering how rare and typically over-priced they are. Good job.:thumbsup
Oh, I've been able to get venture from my bed for short distances, so I'll email about what we were discussing. Phillip

Re: KGB and "Egg" Badges
@Desantnik
There are two wartime awards in the group; the Caucasus medal and Victory over Germany. The first long service award is the 15 years of service, which would hint that it was given in the late 1950s. Question is if he was in service during the postwar period and where - and where is then the 40 years of armed forces - award. It could be that some awards are missing, just as the documents. It is worth to notice that the medal "30 years of Victory" has the wrong ribbon. I did not go there as to buy a (complete) group actually; it came as a surprise when this 40-year old woman - who had her 80 year old mother along! - told that it was her "fathers awards". I doubt she was aware if it was complete or not. @Phillip: I won't try to repair. I will sell it. Last edited by Tretov; 08-04-2011 at 03:36 AM. |

Re: KGB and "Egg" Badges
Here's a nice (or not-so-nice) fake KGB badge that was doctored badly with the Cyrillic "KGB" added. Bidding starts at only $595!!!!:laff

Re: Fake KGB and "Egg" Badges
Phillip,
I would not call that "doctored". I think that the badge is a genuine home (or garage/workshop/shed/...) production. Marc |

Re: Fake KGB and "Egg" Badges
Very curious about this one: it's obviously very different from the standard 60-year that I've seen previously, but I was thrown by the LMD mint mark and screw-plate. Thoughts?

Re: Fake KGB and "Egg" Badges
Looks like one of many regional KGB badges. In this case for Leningrad and Leningrad Oblast, as evidenced by the box. From such small pictures I can't say anything about the mintmark.

Re: Fake KGB and "Egg" Badges
Hi gentlemen,
I wanted to get information about a 50th Anniversary of KGB commemorative badge, screwback, brass is red enamel in the outer frame. This example is pin back, I took it just for example, modified to indicate the red part. |

Re: Fake KGB and "Egg" Badges
It's real. I don't know why someone would try to paint the border area red, but the normal color is as everything else is - gold (unless you highlighted it red for a reason I did not understand - but see below).
The badges like this were given to lower ranking officers in the KGB and sometimes as public relations pieces and to members of other non-Soviet agencies (Bulgarian MVR, for example). Nice pieces to have in your collection and there are two variations I can think of off the top of my head. Both have different colors - blue and red - but on the shield "ribs" only and the rest is whatever color aluminum is on the badge. Bear in mind this is just the opinion of some guy. I don't really claim to know something useful about anything.;) However, if you want to know all about the tombac, MMD made, KGB issued 50th anniversary screw back badge - just email or PM me (email preferred: devalcourt@gmail.com) and I'll send you the info and pictures that used to be in a thread here before things were done to the thread and in trying to fix those things I accidentally deleted it. However, I still have the info, so just send me an email. Phillip
