GPW made winter weight Gym?
Hi Guys, I would welcome your thoughts about this Obr 43 Gym. I was given it by a member of our living history group who thought that it would be OK to cut up for a medical scenario. However, I think it is too good for that, even with the rodent / moth damage to it.
I feel it might be a wartime produced example? Sadly all the buttons are missing, and it is evident that several had been replaced with different coloured threads over time. I am not very familiar with winter weight uniforms, having only ever owned summer weight items in the past. Please have a look at the following pics and see what you think? I like the use of different materials to the linings to the front, the cuffs and the pockets. The pockets lack the small internal ID book pocket which I beleive were a post war addition. Cheers, Ade. |

pullover
It's an interesting pullover; i have never seen another of this material, and i think dating it would be very difficult. I had an M1940 major generals pullover in that was a similar, heavy grade material, but very soft.
The buttons probably mean it was reissued a few times, but it is pretty much just cut cloth, so there is not much more to go on. So, saying when it was first issued would be a guess. DougD Moderator - Cloth |

Thanks Doug. I think I wil restore it with some buttons. If displayed on a mannequin with some field gear it some help disguise some of the holes.
Cheers, Ade. |
