Wearing Soviet awards

I don't remember who was it, but somone at the forum wear (publicaly) Soviet awards. I wonder if others share this trend, and if so, what are the reactions they got.

As for myself, I only wear my awards on may 9, on the top of the mauseleum with commrad Stalin at my side....

Dear Tal

You must be joking. Who would wear someone elses medals...

In the British system, family can wear their relatives medals on the right side. This is normally only done by widows etc. BUT its not done on formal occasions when in uniform. Its only done for remberence services. I have never seen anyone serving soldier do this.

regards

Munroe

If you want to wear it, you have to earn it

This is not right.

If you want to wear a medal, you have to earn it. Althought I understand your desire to make a political statement, I really don't think you will make by wearing old soviet orders. Those brave soldiers who won the medals in the first place did it by putting their life on the line. I feel that unless you can match that it's just silly to pretend that you deserve the right to wear their orders.

I totally agree with mcwirsk in this question.

Pardon my french but the question made me upset.

And now I shall refrain from making any suggestions on how we best can stop fascism spreading throughout Europe.

Gentlemen,

This is just my opinion, but I thought this hobby was about preserving those awards for the history, and honoring those who had received them. I've lost some customers over this issue, and have no regrets.

Dear Alexei

I just wanted to make the British system clear.

Its not an official thing at all.

It has become practice for widows or family of deceased vetrans to wear these award on the right side (all British awards are worn on the left side only) at rememberance day parades only.

You will not find a soldier on parade wearing his fathers medals.

Its done only to bring the memory of the the deceased vetrans to a rememberance day parade (Nov 11). It not official.

Trust this clears what I have said.

Kind regards

Munroe

If I wore mine in America, the red star with the hammer and sickle may give it away. It'd be fun to watch the faces of people as they realise what you're wearing.

Dear Munroe,

Thanks. This information was quite a revelation for me. Coming from a different culture it would be unthinkable for me to put on my grandfather's awards, no matter on which side, even in the privacy of my home. My feeling is that you need to earn them personally to wear them. Your post also taught me that what is not acceptable for some is not necessarily so for other cultures.
