Nice Mongol collection. I've never really seen Mongol awards "en masse" like this. Makes a nice presentation.

Some of my common Mongolian items sittig around, not as impressive as some other members' displays.

One notable item is documented group in the bottom corner - 2 Polar Stars and Labor Medal.

Some day I'll have to put some of my top items in display...

Paul,

Thanks.

"En masse"... LOL...

Two OSB, because there are two old types, one screwback and one pinback.
Two ORBLV because there are also two types of this one, 45 to 70 and since 70 to the end of communist era.
Three ORBCV because there are two major types with two variations of the 2nd type.
Two ORBCV for multiple awarding (one #2 and one #3) because that's what I've just got. (Unfortunately I won't be able to keep both and #2 will soon be for sale )
Three OCV because there are two major types with two variations of the 1st type.
Seven OPS because among known types and variations, including the last brass type (the one on the far right of that row), that's the total it makes.
Eight OMH, because also among types and variations (also including the last brass type, on the far right of that row) that's the total for these. (Still have another one not shown here btw)

I must confess that (for me and IMHO anyway) these Mongolian Orders sometimes beat in beauty and quality their old Soviet sisters

Some of the Badges are very nice too!

The Mongolian Medals display (also containing some of my favorite Badges, mainly Army, Border Guards, Agriculture and Labor), almost complete and definitive.

A pitty that I had to resize the pic so much that we can hardly see and appreciate the whole thing

There are some great looking display on this thread. I enjoy seeing a person display his treasures.

I have learned a few tricks to make my medals easy to display vertically on cloth or wood. Trying to one medal on straight is hard, but to make a display it is very difficult to make the rows line up. I use a small aluminum tubing (about 1/16" by 12") available at Ace and other hardware stores. I cut the tubing to fit the brooch pin (about 3/4" for soviet ribbon bars). I glue (JB Weld) a thumb tack for cloth or a 8-32 flathead bolt for wood to the tubing. I use a clutch head fastener to hold the medal to cloth and a nut for the bolt through wood.

Does anyone have any mounting tips?

William,

I see you have there three ORBLV (order of the Red Banner of Labor Valor).
I only know two Types of this Order with no Variations or sub-variations, so I guess two of yours are of the same Type, either 1945-1970, or since 1970.
Unless you also have the more recent brass Type, produced since 2004.

Thanks,

Dolf

I have had trouble with the screwposts to my Mongol awards being too long, so they dont fit into as standard riker mount. I had to get an extra-deep one, which is bulky. Anyone else have that problem?

Tim,

My walnut displays are 2" deep so it works fine, even thought those long screws tend to make deep holes on the foam, but the foam recovers its original shape once I take the pieces off for some time.

I only have two riker mounts, also 2" deep I believe, but I have no pieces with long screws on them so that works fine.

Yeah, I think the standard riker mount is something like 1 3/4" ... oh well. Any idea why the Mongolian items sometimes have such long screwposts?

Tim,

I have no idea! Probably their standard size I guess!
Or maybe the cloth of their uniforms is too thick or dense... (just kidding )
