Re: Very high Serial Numbered ORB

Paul,

It is a very strange bird with a very late number engraved on an earlier-made order, without accounting for the fact that the 56xxxx range was assigned to the Leningrad Mint, whereas this order was manufactured by the Moscow Mint. All in all, many ???

Re: Red Banner.

Could be the engraver made an error that went unchecked? - Likely
Could have got "displaced" between minting and numbering for a substantial period? - Not very likely.

Other options?

CtahhR, How are you judging the likeliness of these options?

Marc, what variation is the order and what variation does the serial number correspond to? Each seems authentic, no?

We have seen many examples of engraver error but how often do you hear of the batch "falling behind the fridge" unnumbered only to be numbered later? Not too often.

I have many numbering error pieces in the collection from various countries but I can't recall if I have an early pieces with a later number.

I also believe a slight deviation in dialects of English may be at work.

Re: Red Banner.

I would not think it too possible that a batch of these could have been misplaced. Silver is a precious metal and I would bet that they were accounted for, on a shift to shift basis.

Do I still need to make a close up or are the photos posted good enough?

While I don't have any examples off-hand, I do think I remember seeing instances of earlier awards used as re-issues. I bet Marc has an answer though :thumbsup

I think even more detailed images would help, thanks!

Alex,

The base order is a T4 V2 (flat back, small flame) manufactured by the Moscow Mint in 1951/2.
The serial number corresponds to a T4 V4 manufactured by the Leningrad Mint in 1957.

Paul,

If you want a more definite answer, I tend to think so...

Re: Red Banner.

Paul,

Can you please take one more picture, turning the order 90 degrees.
