Permanent home address of the prospective awardee or his family: _______________ Short, concrete description of his feat of arms or merits: Comrade Shchekotov has been serving with the regiment since December 1944. Ever since, the regiment has been engaged in heavy fighting with an advancing enemy, who concentrated a large number of infantry and tanks to link up with the forces encircled at Budapest. As a result of the chief of staff’s proper leadership and the uninterrupted communications, the enemy didn’t succeed in realizing its plans, which were frustrated. As a result of the persistent fighting the enemy suffered heavy losses and was forced to turn to the defensive. During the subsequent fighting, the enemy resumed his attempt to link up with the forces encircled at Budapest and launched an offensive near the village of Man, where the regiment once again bravely met the enemy onslaught. Comrade Shchekotov, who was present among the combat formations of the rifle battalions, personally commanded the units in battle for two days on end. As a result of the persistent fighting the enemy lost up to 120 soldiers and officers and withdrew to his previous positions. The regiment was then ordered to seize the village of Man. On February 4, 1945, after a preliminary artillery bombardment, the regiment commenced its attack, and thanks to the proper and capable leadership by regimental command and staff, the village of Man was captured with just minor losses. The enemy then attempted to retake the lost positions and launched a counterattack, which failed once again. The enemy lost 1 self-propelled gun and up to 50 soldiers and officers and retreated. The regiment firmly held the village, thus accomplishing its mission. Conclusion: He deserves the Order of Alexander Nevsky. Commander of the 3rd Brailov Guards Rifle Regiment, 4th Apostolovo Red Banner Guards Rifle Division Guards Colonel [signed] /Levin/ February 7, 1945 He deserves the Order of Alexander Nevsky.
