Indeed beautiful! Reminds me of the British awards where the recipients name is engraved.

Re: Leningrad with engraved Suspension !?

Very interesting and clever use of the suspension space. I've seen some of the campaign medals with award booklet numbers stamped or even engraved like serial numbers on the reverse, but not one like this.:thumbsup

I can't see from the pictures, but according to the Mondvor people, the later issue medals (not during or immediately after the war) had a shorter horizon that ended just inside the lettering in "За оборону Ленинграда," whereas on the later issue medals the horizon extends past the letters and almost or all the way to the inner edges of the obverse.

In any case, this is a rather unique piece and well worth keeping, in my opinion.:)

Re: Leningrad with engraved Suspension !?

What's up with the ring? It looks small, and repaired?

Re: Leningrad with engraved Suspension !?

Hi guys,

thank you for your opinion !

Yes, I think that the suspension ring has been re - soldered to the medal after it was damaged.

Does anybody know, why the gold plating is so thick and shiny ?

No. I have a Moscow done similarly - perhaps privately done?

Because that's the way a small number of them were manufactured at the Mint.
