Erich Mielke's Awards Auctioned.

Very rare set of documents of Erik Mielke - former State Security head od DDR:

"We auctions on behalf of a customer the following articles from the estate of Erich Mielke (politician and secret service boss German one Democratic Republic).
- diplomat passport of Erich Mielke (number 224/61)
- diplomat passport of Gertrud Mielke (Nummer237/61)
- document of identification of the people chamber of the GDR of Erich Mielke (number 287)
- document of identification of the Council of Ministers of the German Democratic Republic of Erich Mielke (number 000853)
- 19 original photos partially of the celebration "30 years Ministry for Staatssicherheit". The following persons are shown in on the pictures: Guenter Guillaume, Egon Krenz, Erich Honecker, Alexander Schalk - Golodkowski etc..
- 4 medals and a sticker
- 1 Feliks - Dzierzynski - badge completely with medal and document
- 2 four - stars - shoulder straps
- 1 coin of the public prosecutor's office of the GDR
- 1 book with various signatures and designs
- coines and bank notes from the GDR (4x 20 Marks, 1x 20 Pfennig, 1x 1 Mark, 1x 10 Pfennig, 1x 5 Pfennig)
- 1 red briefcase without contents
All articles specified above originate from the former private property from Erich Mielke.

There will be an auction this fall at one of the major dealer houses - it'll feature some serious items from Mielke.

Among the lots planned for sale are: Karl Marx order with Award Gramota, Sharnhorst medal, uniforms, documents, etc.

HSU may be one of the lots for sale...

The auction will take place in Hamburg, on 11 September 2004.
I don't think it is allowed here to mention the name of the auction house.
Will be auctioned very "serious" pieces of Erich Mielke.

Hereafter is how the auction has been publicised in some media :

"The order medals ''Hero of the DDR'', right, and ''Karl Marx Orden'', left, of the former longtime head of the secret police of the former communist German Democratic Republic, Erich Mielke, photographed in Hamburg, northern Germany, on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004. Some 170 items that belonged to Erich Mielke are going on auction, including dozens of medals for his service in the cause of Communism and Mielkes former DDR diplomats passport. Auctioneer (...) said he hopes the collection will fetch some 100,000 euro (US$123,000) when it goes on the block Sept. 11, 2004 in Hamburg."

Erich Mielke HSU is included in this top end auction.

Here is the description of the HSU lot (Lot N° 129) :

" Sowjetunion, Medaille Goldener Stern zum Held der Sowjetunion. Goldener Stern an vergoldeter Bandtragespange, Verleihungsnummer "11565", im Verleihungsetui. Dazu die großformatige Verleihungsurkunde vom 25. Dezember 1987, anläßlich seines Geburtstages. Die in Leder gebundene Urkunde mit Goldprägung im großformatigen Lederkasten. Dazu der Trägerausweis eines "Helden der Sowjetunion" mit Lichtbild, sowie das Ordensbuch mit eingetragener Verleihungsnummer. Neben Erich Honecker war Generaloberst Erich Mielke einer der wenigen deutschen Helden der Sowjetunion.

Let's imagine what will be the result of the Hamburg one !! The auctioneer's target of 100,000 € should easily be exceeded.

Has someone the complete result of this Hamburg auction ?
What the auction house indicates on its website as the result of the sale, does not seem to be consistent (specifically lot numbers do not fit...).

I contacted them, but no reply....

Any idea ?

well, what you saw in the "auction" catalogue after september 11th, was the remaining items proposed at start price+10%. About the Mielke's legacy, everything, absolutely everything is gone. I'll give you all prices. The sales result list is downlodable in Word or Pdf...

Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about all his medals and documents going to different collectors? I understand that it is hard to find an individual collector, who could afford to buy them all, but still
