That style button on visor cap hasn't changed since the tsar. Sometimes you can read the date (or verify there isn't a date) by carefully retracting it. The rounded visor usually means postwar although there are plenty of exceptions. The "crazing" of the polish and inside of visor looks 40's or 50's. The cord looks newer than the cap. I suspect a petty officer cap (leather chinstrap for that era) which was "upgraded" as leaves on the visor started appearing for naval officer caps around 1945

So Jeffrey, if I understand you correctly, this visor could have been part of a uniform worn in '45 by a senior officer?

Possibly up to captain but senior officers would have been putting leaves on the visor by 45. Definitely NOT admiral after 1943.
