Pedagogical Institution Graduate Badges.
Here are a series of badges from what I assume is related to teacher training and associated professions
P1 & P2: Graduate, 1960s - gilt brass & enamels with 3-piece construction. Screwback. Made by Monetny Dvor in Moscow. P3 & P4: Graduate, 1970s-80s - Aluminium & enamels with 3-piece construction. Screwback. Made by Monetny Dvor in Moscow. P5: 6-sided version. There seems to be a great variation in the blue of these badges, much greater than with other types. Simon |

Pedagogical Institutes
Thanks for the feedback.
In the post regarding the Pedagogical Institute badges I used the term "teacher training" assuming that these places related to producing teacher etc. I googled the term "pedagogical institute' and found the following: Birsk State Pedagogical Institute BSPI Birsk State Pedagogical Institute was established in 1952 on the basis of three departments of the teaching institute, opened in Birsk since 1939. During the period of its existence the Institute trained more than 20,000 of teachers for the schools of the country, mainly for rural areas. Now the Institute has 6 departments, where approximately 3,500 students study at full-time and part-time departments in 16 specialities. They study at the following faculties:
What is the difference between this and a teacher training college - is it a matter of prestige and standards, with the institutes being higher than the colleges? Simon |

Teacher Training
Simon,
Nice info. The difference is at which level it qualifies the teacher to teach at. Here is a small insight into the requirements of Teacher education: Training of pre-primary and primary/basic school teachers Non-university level educational institutions (technikums, colleges) train teachers for pre-primary and primary schools. The duration of the course is two to four-and-a-half years. Some teacher training institutions of university level train teachers for primary schools. The course lasts for five years. Graduates of these two types of educational institutions may exercise the profession. Training of secondary school teachers Teacher training is carried out in teacher training university-level institutions. The programme lasts for at least five years. Graduates may enter the profession. Training of higher education teachers University teachers must have followed post-graduate training. A scientific degree (Kandidat Nauk at least) is compulsory to obtain a lecturer's post in HEIs. Eddie.

Re: University/Institute grad badges???
Now that we have a dedicated area in "Badges" for the non-military academy grad badges, let's get back to what this one started out for - questions about particular badges.
This one is fun because a previous owner (probably the original owner) added a touch of red paint to the star atop the Soviet crest. However, my question is this: was there a specific degree this was awarded for or did it encompass several similar disciplines? I've seen this one referred to as being for law school students, humanities and pedagogical degrees. Any of our former Soviet citizens can help out here? Phillip Obviously, the screw nut is not original to this LMD badge.;)

Re: University/Institute grad badges???
The first one is another one (sans red paint) in what might be the original box.
The other two are later aluminum versions of the same badge with what I think is a 3-year (vs the 5-year - or more - of the rhombus) degree. I think these are from the 1970s-1980s. This brings up another question. In terms of equivalency to US higher education standards (and I know this is a tough comparison because of the nature of the types of education being compared), but would the six-sided badges be more or less equivalent to a college/university 4-year degree and the four-sided something akin to a masters degree? Re: University/Institute grad badges???
Now this one is what I was under the impression was a true grad badge for a pedagogical (teaching) degree.
