Archives Closed Again?
I received the below email last night:
The research services are closed because of the new regulations. It involves FSB and MVD. They started to investigate cause there are too many documents from the archive were posted on the Internet. From what I've understood it will be impossible to get UK's and UPK's cause it violation of confidentiality, personal information. The citations will be hard, but still possible to obtain. Anyone heard anything similar? |

Re: Archives Closed Again??
We were just talking in other threads about the all the personnel records for sale on eBay and other forms of personal and/or confidential information that I and others suspected would be deemed an invasion of privacy.
Take for instance the fact that I managed to come by someone's parole documents from the late 1980s with his photo and all. I'm not exactly proud of it, but I'm not exactly ashamed of it either. As for this being an actual reason for the MVD and FSB to step in, I'm going with coincidence.:) Of course, conspiracy types will probably claim that it is a way to get research prices back up from their $20 low. Phillip

Re: Archives Closed Again??
I received the same message.
Copying of all documents will be under rigid control. The color digital copies will be traced in a network by division "K" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.:yow Last edited by Alexscl; 03-19-2011 at 07:14 AM. |

Re: Archives Closed Again??
In that most of the research I've been sent for translations has been digital photos, I guess there is a way around that...

Guys,
Are you sure that "Deep Throat" is not pulling you leg? I have not heard of anything similar here; it is business as usual as far as I know. Marc |

Re: Archives Closed Again??
It's very, very possible and my first impression was exactly the same... but my researcher didn't increase prices, he just told me that research will be almost impossible in the nearest future. Probably after a couple of weeks he will send me his new $$$ PRICE-LIST

Re: Archives Closed Again??
FWIW, I would be surprised they completely stop allowing access to research material for privacy issues since the initiator of the project for the website podvignaroda.ru is the Department of Information and Communication Technology from the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation itself. However, as they did on the website, they might want to censor personal information like home address.
Anyway, time will tell, but let's hope we will go toward more information and not less. |

Re: Archives Closed Again??
So far it's business as usual, just a little slower.
