Order Of Gagarin

The Order of Gagarin has been established on 27 May 2023, by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation no. 385 “On the establishment of the Order of Gagarin”.

The first holder of the Order of Gagarin was Valentina Tereshkova. The first female cosmonaut was awarded by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated June 16, 2023 No. 442 “for outstanding services in the exploration of outer space, courage and dedication shown during the historic manned flight, active social and international activities” (see picture).
The award was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Tereshkova’s flight into space.

According to the statute approved by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 27, 2023 No. 385, the Order of Gagarin is awarded to citizens of Russia:

* for the successful completion of a manned space flight, a manned space flight program for the exploration, development and use of outer space;
* for outstanding services in the organization and successful implementation of space flight, space flight programs for the exploration, development and use of outer space;
* for outstanding services in the implementation of state policy in the field of space activities, including in the interests of the defense and security of the Russian Federation;
* for outstanding achievements in the development, production, testing and trouble-free operation of rocket and space technology, the creation and implementation of new technologies and the conduct of effective scientific research;
* for great achievements in the training of scientific, engineering and technical personnel.

In addition, the order can be awarded to foreign citizens for effective participation in international cooperation with the Russian Federation in the field of exploration and use of outer space, as well as teams of organizations (regardless of ownership) for high achievements in the development of domestic cosmonautics (space activities), in the implementation of state policy in the field of space activities, in ensuring the defense and security of the Russian Federation in outer space.
