Today the Mint produces many state awards of Russia as well as orders and medals for some foreign states. The artists of the enterprise participate in creation of new awards both for Russia and for other contries. The orders are produced of gold and silver using hot enamels and gilting. The history of coinage started in the second half of the 15-th century , when the common for all principalities monetary system began to form in Russia. The unified coin that was struck in Moscow because a symbol of consolidation of Russian lands. Even in the 18-th century when the capital was transferred to Petersburg, several mints continued to work in Moscow. The Moscow Mint was founded in 1942 not far from the places in the capital, where historically coins have been produced. Today the Moscow Mint is a state enterprise, working in the system of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.
