Re: Dembel Patches

In short, you can't. However the time it would take to create the originality and design of the patches/uniforms compared to their resultant "value" to purist collectors don't provide much incentive to "forgers."

Now if there is a popular surge on dembel items, all bets are off... ;)

Border Troops DEMBEL

There are a lot of Dembel threads out there, so I'll put them all together as part of this thread, clean it up, and we can have a running tally of images of Dembel patches in wear and in collections.

Here is one for KGB Border Troops.......

Saw that uniform too, but I think the cap was not the one of the uniform owner, the patches says 1989-1991 but cap said 1988-1990.

Re: Dembel Patches

Here's the uniform I mentioned. I would like to think this is original and not a modern fake, but my expertise is limited when it comes to uniforms. Granted, I bought it for the patch, haha.

Re: Dembel Patches

Just picked up this naval dembel via ebay. What is interesting is the gold bullion trim. In the auction photos I thought this was some sort of modern synthetic braid (like on the border guard dembel I have) but was in for a surprise in the mail. Anyways, enjoy :)

As for the uniform, it looks real enough and in excellent shape (but I am no expert on cloth either). At the same time, I absolutely love the patch. I meant to comment on it when Doug posted it before, but forgot about it. It really does look very nice, especially compared to some of the others I've seen.

Have you checked for holes that have been punched for badges? The border guard especially, had lots of badges even simply for being on duty and nearly all of the ones I've seen have screw-posts.

Re: Dembel Patches

Another dembel I just received from Italy. The patch was glued to the sleeve, and I think when it was removed they tore the felt. This aside, it's still a nice example.
