Any fake Mongolian stuff yet?
I was hoping if someone could tell me if there are fakes out there yet in the Mongolian medals and orders market. The prices are getting high enough I think for fakes to become an issue.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Matt,
As far as I can tell I have not detected any fakes yet, but as you say, with the growing number of collectors interested in these Awards, and also the increasing prices, one never knows when it will start! Dolf |

Have you tried to find a Suche Bator? Very few around, if there were copies you would see them being offered on ebay. In the last year or more I have seen only one Suche Bator for sale on Ebay, and only one dealer that had some for sale which are now all sold.

Being a keen collector of Mongolian medals and badges I have yet to come across any copies/fakes:idea .I guess there are still plenty about and relatively cheap. The brass Order of valour is a post 2004 issue and definitely not a fake/copy.In the last few months i've noticed a few of the new brass medals and orders and they seem to go for more money than the old silver ones.Guess it's like the old saying "it's only worth what someone is prepared to pay".Would you pay £300 plus for a Soviet 20th Anniv of the Red Army cos that's what one sold for on E today.
When you see what Soviet Medals and Orders are going for,Mongolian awards make a sensible alternative. Cheers Keith |

fake mongolian awards - yes/no
Yes , as I heard there are some people in Ukraine who made (maybe make now??) first version of mongolian orders (rare). From other side, there are a lot of fake mongolian labor hero medal (golden soembo).
About 2004 - all orders and medals are made in South Korea and definitely not fake...(eventhough quality is so so) Last edited by UB77; 05-03-2007 at 03:48 AM. |

Some very decent fakes of the Order of Sukhbaatar were recently observed, most likely of Russian manufacture.

Alexei,
could you please point out any difference between the decent fake sukabattor Orders and authentic ones? in case if we met some fakes, we would know how to identify them. thanks

Lingqi,
A fake I have seen was of excellent quality with very nice enamel and fairly detailed SB portret, but it was lighter and had no traces of wear. Alexei |
