Order 017/N of the 1017 Rifle Regiment, 285 Rifle Division dated 5 March 1945
On behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet USSR, for exemplary accomplishment of the Command’s combat missions in battle against the German invaders and for displaying valor and courage, I award the:
Bravery Medal to:

1 Machinegun Company, 1 Rifle Battalion Assistant Heavy Machinegun Gunner Private Pavel Fedorovich Kalinovskii who in fighting for the village of Marlonau (sp?) on 7.2.45 replaced the principal machinegunner, who had been put out of action, and repelled an enemy counterattack, destroying as many as nine German soldiers.

Has anyone else seen the case when the commander was lower-ranking than the chief of staff as in this case - a major commander and lieutenant colonel chief of staff?
