Army Proficiency Badges

Hello To All,

I have a few of these badges, but the one on the right is one that I haven't seen before. Has extra white enamel on the outer edges. Is the one on the right for officers? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dat, I believe these are just manufacturing variants produced by different factories. I don't think officers wore these badges, but the horizontally wide "combined arms" badges.

Hello,
The 2 badges are for enlisted & NCO.The one with the white border may be a variant for dembel (demobilization) uniform,as it is a common practice to embelish the jackets (badges,lanyards...).

Badge "Specialist" (Enlisted).

Just got this one in from Lithuania and it's a friggin' beauty! ! ! ! ! ! ! :D
It's not big, just an inch and three-quarters by an inch and a quarter (43mm by 30mm) but it's made of brass and heavy for it's size. It's also got what looks like real enamel in very nice blue and red colors.
It's got a nice screwplate that is maker's marked as well as a MMA mintmark on the reverse of the badge itself.

This is gonna display well.

When did they start issuing these? And am I correct in assuming that these badges replaced, in general, the specific otlichnik badges? Or was it the badges (I don't have an example) that kinda looked like guards badges but with specific icons in place of the red star?

Re: Specialist badge, 3rd class

Proficiency(?) badge? Nice MMA mark on the reverse and mismatched screwplate.
Like it?

specialist badge

NCO specialist badge

I believe these were given to sergeants for completing specialized training.
Two examples here. Again, brass or tombak and enamel with screwback. Later pieces are in aluminum and paint with a pinback.
Four grades; 'M' - Master and '1', '2', '3'.
Instituted in 1954.
