What's the deal with this Russian 'spy ring' deal?

Anna Chapman? Bimbo or Mata Hari?
Is there anything to this "deal' or is it all media BS?

Watching the 'Dateline' special I find this to be nothing more than media hype.

But maybe Sparky knows??????

Re: What's the deal with this Russian 'spy ring' deal?

I had completely forgotten about this. I can see behaviors that are similar to the Cold War days. The Russians arrested some Americans and charged them with spying, so we arrested a few so that we could make an "exchange." This happens more frequently than you might think, but if the Russians are involved then it's newsworthy because they still have a bad or at best suspicious reputation for many over 30 US citizens. Even Hollywood still stereotypes Russians often as the bad guys.

So yeah, I agree with it being made into a bigger deal than usual because the media folks are getting tired of writing and reporting the same stories about the oil gusher in the Gulf.

And Marc - no, this isn't a conspiracy theory. I used to be a newspaper journalist for many years and you can only beat so much out of a stagnant story before people just don't care anymore and sales revenues drop. This ugly truth about the US news media is part of the reason I am not still a reporter. (That and the advent of the Internet.)

Thanks for shedding some light in this, Phil. I guess this problem doesn´t apply only to US media; it´s pretty much the same here and everywhere else. I´ve not seen or read anything but world cup related stuff while there were some not so red-and-blue things going on.

BTW, after taking a look at Anna Chapman´s photos I wonder.. why the heck don´t they send such kinda spies here!!!???

At least one guy's already divorced her. That can't be a good sign. Plus, she's gotta be a high maintenance kinda gal. Not the type for ol' Erickskiy.
But by all means Normsky, submit your boink application. Ya can't win if ya don't play!

Re: What's the deal with this Russian 'spy ring' deal?

After reading Philskiy's explanation it all makes sense. A media mountain out of a mole hill. I can't wait for this summers lurid 'shark attack!' stories on the news.
Is there a simple BS filter I can buy somewheres so I don't even have to worry about crapola like this????

Re: What's the deal with this Russian 'spy ring' deal?

I saw the B.B.C. News 24 reports of this and they called it "Dramatic Action" when the folks were changing planes... I can't think of anything more boring and tedious than swapping planes.... If you want a filter the "off" button usually works best.... Where's an E.M.P. when you need one?

I´ve been recently using Scarface: The World is Yours for PS2 as a filter. It has given me good results and even allows you to own all Miami Keys.
