repro

Here is a repro / modern copy Guards flag. I do not think it was made to fool collectors, rather I think it was used for display in a smaller museum or for parade use. The older flags do not hold up as well, so in the 1980's some of these were made.

The "Guards Flag" is for the 20th Guards Rifle Division.

Guards 1942

Here is an example of an often used substitute for a 'real' Guards flag. Simply an M1942 standard with the 'Guards' title added. The Guards flag was very ornate and could take some time to make, so in combat conditions this was often done.

64th Guards Tank Brigade

Another ultra-rare example of the WWII Guards unit flag has surfaced: 64th Guards Tank Brigade. This was a Sherman unit that ended up meeting up with the 82nd Airborne Division at the end of WWII.

A terrific example.

Another rare Red Air Force example

This is a terrific example of a Guards flag for a long range bomber regt, the 13th Guards Red Banner Long Range Aviation Regt. This unit seems to be a B-25 unit, though full research is being done now.

It's a very nice textbook example. Was on display at the SOS after being brought over from Russia, and is now in a large collection of WWII Red Air Force items.

16th Guards Mortar Brigade-Red Banner-Order of Kutuzov VM-24.

Great Museum.

Awarding

What looks to be the awarding of a Guards flag to a unit, with Khrushchev and Malinovsky and the unit leader.
