Re: Fake Academy Badges

Don't feel too bad. I have some of these "combo" badges. My guess is that - best case scenario - if the badges were originally issued (and I don't think the first one was), then someone had the plates added afterward. The copper plate is really obviously not original to the manufacturer.

Re: Fake Academy Badges

Yes, copper tags. I know some are real and all that, but all of my allegedly post-1970s badges like these have all sorts of little problems.

Re: Fake Academy Badges

How bizarre. Never seen a pin-back.

Good.

The Soviet Diplomatic Graduation badge is the only one that I know of that was made as a pin-back.
Perhaps the diplomats were just more aware of not wanting to punch holes in jackets in order to wear the badge !

First, the badge is great. I'd like to know what people are asking for these nowadays (you can PM if you don't mind sharing - oh, and Marc has been looking for one of these for at least a couple of years now, so if you can lend him a hand, I know he would be grateful;)).

The first of these badges (in the grey) were screw-back. It was not very long before somebody realized that the diplomatic corps folks would have to wear many different jackets depending on where and how they were stationed. The last two versions were pinback with either neatly bent excess arms or "rivets;" however, this was not a difference that can be placed accurately in time since it seems that depending on which mint made the badge decided how the pins were locked into place.

Excellent badge. Do what you can to get it if the price is right for you.:thumbsup

P.

It's a later variation.
