In this stamp, issued to honoring Gagarin's flight, you can see HSU star on an EARLY SUSPENSION, and we know that Gagarin got his HSO on April 1961!

Only in 1981, 20 years after the above stamp was issued, we can see the correct HSU on a USSR stamp:

Belarus issued stamps depicting the country's orders. Notice the Order for the Service to Motherland which is modeled on a Soviet predecessor. In fact, if one earns Belarus OFSM and already has the Soviet order, he will get the next higher class.

Cheers,

Simon

Metal stamp Soyuz 35 Interkosmos

Hello everyone,

I have no clue whether this belongs on your forum, but I am very keen on finding out what I have here. After browsing the Internet for close to a year I've stumbled upon this website, so I decided to dump the question on here.
We're dealing here with a metal "stamp" dated 1980 and it is a sort of remembrance stamp from the Soyuz 35, Interkosmos 2. It has the Soviet-Magyar logo on the left and the Interkosmos logo on the right and the names of the kosmonauts around it. The size is 38x22mm and is "embossed" all the way, no etching involved. So far I have not been able to identify what it exactly is though. I was hoping someone on this forum could shed some light on this.
I hope someone can help me out here. Thanks in advance

Richard

PS: I hope I posted it correctly here. I first wanted to post it in the "research corner", but since it ain't a medal or remotely looking like anything else they research, I posted it here. Feel free to correct the post if I was mistaken!

My 40 Kopeks worth...

I've been working on cleaning out my dad's home office and, at one time or another he collected almost everything. In a box with some miscellaneous stamps I found this gem. A block showing the proposed "Palace of the Soviets". The year 1937 is significant because that is when the red stars were placed atop the kremlin cathedrals. Thought you all would enjoy

Wonderful. Though I'm rather glad they never built what looks like a "Tower of Babel." The swimming pool they built on the cathedral foundation was more of an insult to my mind and thankfully the Russians rebuilt the cathedral. I prefer the cathedral architecture compared to the Stalin "Seven Sisters" towers around Moscow which the proposed building reminds me of.

And when they were killing of tens of thousands of their best and brightest...

We recently visited a former Soviet-bloc factory and in its museum was a photo of the factory's leadership taken in 1935. A sharp-eyed colleague pointed out that the face of one the organization's leaders was subsequently scratched out.

The timing of your post is a nice coincidence. I am near the end of the chapter in Christopher Andrew's KGB: The Inside Story which he titled "Stalin and Spy Mania (1926-1938)." This is truly the darkest hour in Soviet history. I can understand how people in some republics, especially the Baltic ones and Ukraine could be angry if not bitter towards Moscow "authority" and the whole Soviet period.
