hi y'awl!

Eric,Rusty
Doesn,t that mean Hello to you all in Kentuckyish?

Great pics!
But for such a big show only Three dealers in soviet items seems a rather small percentage so no doubt the main interest was German Orders and Medals. Sad, Sad.
Are the prices really that bad?

Eddie.

Eddie, yes, that does mean hello all in "Kentuckian".

There were only 3 delers with mostly Soviet Orders and Medals. There were quite a few folks with soviet items... Two come to mind: 1) This father-son shop of different awards including an Order of Victory that they would have sold for $350 - $400. It had one "diamond" missing. 2) this gentleman who had almost a dozen screwback pieces including screwback Lenin, several fake RBs and a RB mirror reverse with almost no enamel on it. When I asked about the Lenin screwback, he proceeded to tell me a "tear-jerking" story about how the awardee was in the NKVD and parachuted behind enemy lines to kill Germans, and was awarded the Lenin for that... The seller said, I will send you the research that I have done by mail after you buy the piece. Interestingly enough, he had "research done" for even the Kapral-looking Red Banners with a bright yellow gilt. This guy was good.

The prices ARE getting quite bad...

Examples:

"For Bravery" = $90
"For Battlefield Merits" T1 = $90
Kutuzov3 = $2400
Suvorov3 = $1700
XX RKKA w/Doc = $800
RB mirror reverse = $485
Red Star w/rivets = $1000
Fake hand-made For Bravery = $50 )
Fake Service to Motherland 2nd class = $650
Fake Lenin screwback = $1000

etc...

Eric

Taz,

There were only 3 dealers specializing in Soviet awards. There were a dozen or so others that ranging from a few pieces and up to a 15-20 pieces.
There was groups to a HSU but the HSU stars were wearers copies!

Rusty.

Great Pity

Eric, Rusty,

I,m sorry to hear that the prices are getting so bad and that the dealers are selling a lot of Fakes as Original. Kapral pieces of all things!
Maybe we are all starting to get paranoid but with all these Fakes, Copys and Copys of Fakes I think it may be justified.
Still nice to hear you all had a good time.
Did anyone get any bargains at all?

Eddie.

Eddie, the Soviet major dealers do not sell fakes as real... It was the one-off little dealers who had the a bunch of different stuff and a few Soviet pieces.

Just for the record.

Eric

Wow!!!

Rusty and Eric,

I have no words for what my eyes see here, guys!!! WOW!!!
Among all those fakes and copies I bet there are some/many good ones after all, right?

You mention a Order of Victory for $350.00-$400.00! Can't be a real one, right? A Kapral copy or what?!

Anyway, this looks like the collector's paradise...

Thanks a lot for sharing with us those beauties.

Hello all,
I attended the show Thursday and unfortunately didn't get to meet any forum members. Also, Michael ****** was the only Soviet dealer open that day. I was shocked to count about 15 tables covered up & "closed" on Thursday. I hope Mr ****** is a reputable dealer....I dropped quite a bit of money with him. I was burned on 2 German badges. Same old thing, dealer swore the badges were real but when I posted pics on the TR forum the unanimous consensus were that they were fake. Anyone know how I can reach a dealer named Tony Caliendo or did anyone get a contact list of OVMS members?

David,

If Tony is who I think he is, then you may find him at the Hillside Militaria Show in Illinois. I do not have his info, but I did purchase a few things from him. He was at the SoS but he only had a 2-million number Red Star for $30 or $40.

Maybe he is your guy.

Eric

Thanks for the info. When & where is that show?
I almost bought a Red Star (#4381 and virtually mint) from ******. He was asking $400 but came down a little. Did you guys see it? What do you think about the price?

David,

$400 is a fair price.
