Medal Maternity.

Hi to you all.
I´ve been collecting for quite awhile now and I´ve noticed that the motherhood medal have lots of variations in how the suspension is fastned to the medal. I have atleast 6 variations.
It would be fun if everyone could post pictures on the reverses of the medal both 1st and 2nd class. Let´s see how many types we can find.

Best wishes

P.s pic is borrowed from XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hope it´s ok Igor.

Medal "Motherhood" Document.

Hi There,

I have just inherited a jumbled box of medals/orders for a relative who used to work in Finland. I have decided to keep his collection and to start adding to it myself. In the box was the attached document with a simple note saying "document for motherhood medal". Could anyone please tell me whether this is the 1st or 2nd class version (both are in the box). Also, since I don't read Russian could anyone tell me who this was awarded to?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Simon

Simon,

It was awarded to Stanislava Stepanovna Stanislavchik (first name, middle name, last name) by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, Belorussian SSR dated 15 August 1955 (acting in the name of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, USSR). Hope this helps.

Regards,

Mother

I've just got my first Motherhood medal - I thought this was a 1st Class award after consulting the McDaniel book, but looking on the front section of this site and in this thread, it is being described as a 2nd Class.

http://www.soviet-awards.com/medals26.htm#medal46

McDaniel says "the 1st Class is made of gold-plated brass, with white and light-blue enamel on the suspension." This site says the 1st class is "made of silver" and shows the dark blue enamel suspender, which is what McDaniel describes as the 2nd Class.

Set of Motherhood Orders

The medal you have is the 2nd Class. That was the one mistake in the McDaniel & Schmitt book.

Best,
Doc

Thank you for that info, Doc - much appreciated! I presume, then, it is not gold-plated bronze, but just bronze, being that 1st, 2nd and 3rd tends to go gold, silver and bronze.

I'll pencil a note in the book.

Orchid,

There were only 2 classes of the Motherhood medal. This one is actually gilt brass.
