The second example i have seen.
Not in my collection yet but maybe sone.

Especially the inside with all the markings is important as they are worn out in mine.

Re: What is this for kinda cap ?

Here's my take...

This is a Suvorov school winter hat.
I actually bought M43 Suvorov School uniform set recently and it came with such hat and the seller seems to agree that the red piping was for the winter uniform.

Here's the sellers description:

The cap is black wool with red band and plastic visor. Chin strap is oilcloth type and buttons are black backed, multipiece, unmarked. Star is one piece enamel. Puzzler is that it's piped in red rather than white. I've found one reference to red piping with winter uniform but cannot find either pictures or document for this. This isn't a militia cap (black, not blue) nor likely a cavalry hat because of the color and because it's so small. (diameter about 8 inches, much less than a european 55.

Ser-g,

This cap is of post-Soviet manufacture.

Re: What is this for kinda cap ?

okay post soviet it is, no doubt about that.

But what for was always the main question.

Winter uniform suvorov seems okay to mee too, my seller told me it was a officers candidate cap. In some way suvorov students are just that.

So post soviet the winter uniform got re introduced.
In this care its a rare cap as all suvorov are.

Ser-g,

Have a look at this page, you will see the cap with red piping in use, and it does not seem to be winter wear.

And I don't thing that I'd call this a rare cap by any means.

Marc,

The pictures on your webpage you gave us are with white piping not with the red.

The red piping , black crown and red band makes this a weird cap.
Furthermore the construction of plastic instead of cardboard is weird.

The construction could be explained by the fact it must have been used during though periods or wet weather but really we dont know.

Re: What is this for kinda cap ?

Ser-g,

Have a look at this picture (taken in October 1991). The piping is NOT white and is clearly the same color as the band...

As to plastic/cardboard visors, you can find the same type of variation on regular army caps over some period of time.

Re: What is this for kinda cap ?

Lapa,

Black and white pictures are always hard to see what color something may have been.

As i see the piping as a differed color which is lighter than the band i take it for white. The piping between the band and the crown is clearly distinct from the band, which to me makes it a differed color.

Ser-g,

As a practicing photographer well-versed in B&W printing, I can tell you that the piping and the band are definitely the same color. The piping is clearly not white in this picture.
