Here is some information I can add about WWII Soviet helmet. Unfortunately I had to reduce the pic to have them at 50k. :(
You can see on one picture the different liners in the SSch-40 model. The leather liner did exist in the SSch-40 WWII model, but they are very rare to find. So my guess is that if you don't know so much WWII Soviet helmet, be suspicious if someone want to sell you one with a leather liner. The other picture show you how to read the stamp that you should expect to have in your helmet. Sometimes again, some helmets don't have any stamps or were erased with the time. Kim, were they helmets issued without stamps, or if they don't have stamps that is because they faded with the time.

And now my small but hopefully growing WWII Soviet helmets collection. :)
01. The first one is an SSch-36, unfortunately the stamp is not visible. So I don't know from which year. 02. The second is an SSch-39 dated from 1939. 03. The thirsd is an SSch-40 winter camo helmet. No stamps. 04. And the last one is an SSch-40 also with no stamp.

Soviet: It is hard to give a rule that will apply to all helmets and stamps in them. But usually they were stamped in the factory. But I have seen some that I do not think ever had a stamp, although they are not repainted. Many SSh68 that I have seen does not have a stamp in them. Strange...
The info is for sure price-less, because it's free... :D  Nice pics by the way!! /Kim |

I know so few Soviet helmet collectors but I know so many German helmet collectors. What is good with the Soviet helmets is that there is an evolution with them. :)

What diffrence a good picture can do.. :)
Now I am 100% that your helmet is Bulgarian m72. The profile gives it away as does the gigantic rivets on the side. But the liner looks an awfull lot like the polish one. http://www.cascoscoleccion.com/bulgaria/bulg72b.htm Sorry if I took part in confusing you from what you allready knew. But the helmet is still not Russian and I guess it was that remark that confused me. /Kim |

Hi guys,
I bought a helmet this weekend that is allegedly Soviet. It is the model 39/40 shape, 3 rivits high on the crown, has an 8-finger leather suspension system, and a leather chinstrap. The only stamp is located on the underside of the top of the helmet. Because it has the 3 rivits, its a model 39 not 40, right? But is it soviet? Here's a drawing of what i think the stamp looks like. |
