GPW era cap stars?

I think I need a couple to complete a display I have in mind. What are the distinguishing characteristics of WW2 era cap stars? How are they affixed to the cap? There's just two types; larger for officers and smaller for EM, correct? How difficult are these to find? Is it safe to assume there are fakes?
TIA.

Eric,

Which ones are you talking about: combat or service/parade?

Duh.....

Golly, I'm not sure Marc. :(
The star itself, not the star with the wreath I guess.
Is there anyplace where I can see the cap stars so I can get an idea of what I want?

Eric,

Combat: painted/enamelled with green paint
Service/Parade: red enamel or paint

Oh right, of course! I knew that. :)
Let's try and focus on the service/parade stars for the moment please.
What are the basics of those?

Eric,

From memory (sorry :) ) for the war years:
. with separate H&S: 4 different sizes (Budenevka, Cap, pilotka and bezkozerka)
. H&S struck with the star: made of different metals (brass, copper/brass-clad iron), enameled or painted, each in 3 different sizes

What type of display or what type of caps do you require the stars for? These are not for sale, but I am able to provide basic information about almost any one you wish to know about.

Waooo Richie, that's a nice set you got there.

Could you please post an individual scan of the third star in the top row on the first picture you posted) and a description of what it is.
Thank you,

Marc

Wow Richie, now *thats* a collection. Obviously you're the man I can get some good info from.
The display I have is here: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/62596-post459.html And alls I want is a couple era stars to add just a bit more spice. I don't have room for more than two or three.
