Lenin Red Banner

This one is for sale now on E... (£99/£110), looks very nice!
Opinions?

Seller says:

"HAND SEWN VELVET Red banner of LENIN to the winner of ALL-UNION SOCIALISTIC COMPETITION"

The condition of the banner is NEW!

The banner was made before 1970 on the order of Soviet government, high quality, hand sewn.

Sign on the banner: "Under the Banner of Marxism-Leninism Under the Management of Communist Party - Ahead to the Victory of Communism!"

Sign on the other side:"Ministry of Finances of USSR, the Central Committee of Trade Union of Workers of Official Workers"

"To the winner of ALL-UNION SOCIALISTIC COMPETITION"

The dimensions are 170x130 cm or about 5 feet 6 inches X 4 feet 2 inches.

Dolf,

That is a standard, common civilian banner that I believe to be more recent than the seller says. What exactly is your question here?

I'd like to know if they fake these, and what a real one is worth.

Tim,

Yes, they now fake these too, even though their value is in the $100~$150 range for a nice banner.

Marc,

I have no specific question, just enjoyed the Banner so I posted the pics for those interested.
Apparently the price the seller is asking is quite exagerated, right? Specially if not from the period he mentions and of a more recent production.
Now that you mention they also fake these, what's your opinion on this one?

Dolf,

Difficult to tell for sure as you need to have a close look at the thread used, but from your pics it looks fine.

fakes

These are available in HUGE numbers in Russia and Ukraine (and pretty much all the republics I bet); I really know of no evidence that they are being faked (other than fake text being added to unissued examples). I would like to see an outright fake, and see what makes it fake, rather than accept that there are fakes based on the idea of "A guy I know has seen the fake factory" or " This guy says there are alot of fakes" etc. There simply is no real reason to fake them; they are available in large numbers and are cheap; on the Arbat a nice one will still bring under $100 if you shop from booth to booth.

However, that does not mean they will not be faked in the future; I still want to see a fake example though.

The one in this photo is a standard nice example. I still have the one i fell in love with back in 1992. Paid $100 then, worth $100 now : (
