Police Auxiliary Group

Not really an award group, but I didn't know where else to put it. Anyway, a grouping of "Helfer der Volkspolizei" items for an individual I chose not to identify as he is only five years my senior and may well still be alive. The "star" of the gathering is his intact I.D.- most were destroyed and it is quite rare to see a complete example. It was issued in 1979. The table medal for 25 years of Helfer der Volkspolizei was given from 1978. The armband is a Bartels 72a and the badge is a Bartels 73.

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Greg - very nice "grouping". :-)

When you have time, could you post a close up of the ink stamps.

Thanks

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Sure, Ralph... first, an image of the inside and outside of the doc. Next, the stamp over the photo and, third, the three stamps on the right hand side of the doc.

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Greg - thanks for your follow up post with the photos. I was interested in seeing if the stamps were VP associated and from which district. Thanks again for posting the grouping, it is interesting to see the Police Auxiliary ID since I only own VP IDs. So it nice to see yours.

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Thanks, Ralph. The "Helfer" I.D. is the only police I.D. that I own (so far). Don't suppose you'd consider treating us with a peek at your Vopo I.D.'s? I'd like to get a look at them.

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Greg - Thanks for asking, what I will do is start new thread since they are VOPO related.

Also good hunting for other IDs. :-)

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Great stuff Greg

I have a similar document for a "police helper" and though it is unissued, it is pre-stamped. I am a "newbie" with DDR items, so I cannot say what these stamps are about, but I suspect you and/or Ralph can shed some light on them (or at least I hope you guys can).

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Phil,

The stamps indicate the granting authority- who authorized this individual to be a "helfer". Some of the stamps will have the entity and location... in mine it is the Volks Polizei, Kreis ("circle" or district) Amt. (offices or headquarters) Erfurt. On one of your stamps you have MdI (Interior Ministry) and numbers which will indicate a department within the MdI. The other stamp indicates one of the Berlin offices. Hope this helps.

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Phil - Thanks for adding your ID from your collection to the ongoing discussion. Your ID and ink stamps all appear to be real, however I am not sure the larger ink stamp mark would have been placed in the lower right, I for sure could be wrong on this.

The reason for my statement about the larger stamp on the right side is that it is now covering up two box slots that would have shorten the life of the ID when it would have been issued. ID booklets like the size of yours, I have seen smaller ink stamps used, basically the size of the box slot. This weekend I will be creating a new thread on some VOPO IDs I own.

I would be interested in reading what other members think or have in there collections. Phil thanks again for posting your ID.

Re: Police Auxiliary Group

Thanks Greg for the info. I also have a "helfer" badge, but don't know if I should post it here or somewhere country-specific. I know practically nothing (as I said) about East German awards, but have finally started picking up a few in the fields I am interested in; i.e., education, state security and druzhinnik type badges.

Ralph, I look forward to your postings. I have compiled a number of badges and almost an equal number of IDs in a pretty wide range of "auxiliary" members of МВД support groups from various republics and even some of the larger cities. I am trying to decide if I should start a thread for all of the druzhinnik badges/IDs of each republic (including whatever variations may have occurred over time) or if each badge and associated ID needs to be posted according to the republic or country of origin.

Phillip
