The 14th Guards Rifle Corps was under the 9th Army, at the time of the awarding the 9th Army was involved in the North Caucasian Front which at that time was battling for Kursk.
Hence, I'd say our Kukuj is in Kursk Region, Bol'shesoldatskij District. Not a Kursk city awarding but a really close one!

here it is

The 159th Guards Rifle Regiment was part of the 53rd Guards Rifle Division. Looks like the 53rd Guards Rifle Division was part of the 1st Shock Army in the North Western Front.

Happy hunting !

re: Bravery Medal,Guards Rifle Division,269296

As I wrote earlier........

In the awarding order there is direct mention of the 14th GRC, I guess it is best to look for info on a Corps rather than of a Division!! I think it is Kursk. Also, remember that more than 60 years have passed. Most of the places do not exist anymore hence Google map is not the best way to find villages. The best way to find a village is to google it and look at russian websites which report cities and villages over the years.

Moreover, in the same awarding order there is mention of the village VEREVKINO (cit. #5) which is also in Kursk oblast, kursk district.

Hi Brendan,

A quick look on Google Maps gave the attached map. This time A marks the spot!

If you want to have a look at a bigger map use the following search

kukuy near Russian Federation, Kurskaya oblast, Kursk

Gives details as: Kukuy, Bolshesoldatskiy rayon, Kurskaya Oblast, Russia

re: Bravery Medal,Guards Rifle Division,269296

Kukuy is approximatley 40 miles from Kursk and 40 miles from Pokrovka, 15 miles from Orel and 5 miles from Belgorod. So it is right in the middle of some significant areas of the Kursk battle.
