World War II In Color

I stumbled across a TV series on the Military Channel called World War II in Color. Some of the film clips were originally in color, others have been "colorized." Since the episode I saw was entitled "The Soviet Steamroller" I had a nice time for an hour with all the eye candy from a myriad of uniforms and decorations.

I strongly recommend this show if you can get the Military Channel.

Yes, this runs often on the Hitler Channel, oops History Channel in the US. Hard to know when what is on. The series is very USA-centric.

That doesn't surprise me about the bias, but this episode never even mentioned the US as it followed, battle by battle, each Soviet maneuver starting with the victory at Stalingrad. They used good map (which I found helpful) and showed the steady progression from one major battle to the next (basically, all the ones on the campaign medals), making a point of how quickly the Red Army took the previously German controlled cities/regions. They even pointed out Hitler's refusal to listen to his own intelligence and constant underestimation of the Red Army and its will power.

This episode may be the exception to the rule, but I did remember that the narrator ended with the "...but the nazis faced an even bigger threat as Western Allied forces gathered together for the largest single invasion in modern military history" so I guess this was the Red Army's one episode in the whole history of the war.
