Very nice. I own State Prizes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd classes all of which were 1960s replacements for Stalin Prizes. This is a group of awards often overlooked by most collectors.

Re: Stalin Prize First Class

The Document for the Stalin Prize medal with fairly high numbers. Is there a listing of Stalin Prize recipients for the different years?

Given the Stalin Prize was awarded from 1940 - 1952, I can't imagine there were that many of the documents issued. This is one of 13 awards that year. Given Tal says he stopped signing this is 1943 (how do you know this Tal?), and if we assume half the number of awards per class, i.e. 6 second and 3 firsts, this would mean there was 22 per year. Three years means there is probably around 66 documents like this in existence, at a guess.

It's a shame the owner of this document isn't a member of the forum. I've bought some stuff from this guy in the past and always found it to be of good quality and not faked. Art, perhaps you should ask him to join the forum, as we could do with some more expert opinions on some of these more difficult questions.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

Shane,

The information came from te site. Why don't you write him and invite him to the forum? It is not just the Stavka who invite new members...

Tal

PS

Could you post in the proper place a good and detailed scan of your peace medal?

Shane and Tal,

I am not sure if he can contribute much of the backfground on the doc.

From dealing with Igor (the owner of the site that sells the Stalin Prize doc) in the past I've got impression that he's not a collector and focuses only on dealer activities. As such, I am not sure he would show much of the interest in our discussions.

But asking is worth a try, as he is very knowledgeable dealer though.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.
