Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals
Gentlemen, I recently acquired four liberation/capture medals with documents via online auction. All from the same dealer, who claims them to be 100% original. This is my first foray into Soviet medal collecting, so I've been looking through these threads to get my bearings. To my untrained eye, this 1947 Koenigsberg looks good, but I'm not as confident about the 1946 Berlin. Could any of the experts here shed some light?

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals
The rims look too thick to me. I have serious doubts about the Konigsberg and also doubts about Berlin. The photographs are poor.
I can 100% guarantee someone will enjoy taking your money.

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals
Apologies for the poor pictures. I've tried to edit them to make them larger. Is there anything about them that stands out to you, besides the rim thickness. I'm thinking it appears thicker on one side due to the angled aspect of the photo, but not certain. Thank you very much for your input!

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals
Clear pictures of the complete documents are also extremely important.
A Medal real or otherwise is just a piece of metal without correct authorisation.

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals
The extremely thick border on both pieces coincidentally coming from the same source as well as the lack of any wear put my antenna up.
Docs look good from pics, but better, full-images required for definitive call. |

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals
From what's visible on the pictures, the docs appear to match the examples from the Mondvor site. I suppose I'll have to wait for the chance to examine them fully though.
The main concern I had was that the same dealer had several complete medals with associated documents. Seemed too good to be true, especially considering the low prices. But the dealer has solid feedback on e*** and all of his items have bids on them. Oh well, I took a chance and I guess we'll see. Thank you for the insight. |
