Pilot's Goggles
Does anyone know where I can buy an original set of WWII Pilot's Goggles? I have been looking for a pair for a long time and cannot find them. Please PM me if you can help.
Thanks, Ed |

Sorry, I have no clue where to get them.
But, I have more questions which is what this forum is all about.... Can anyone explain the differences between various types of goggles - pilot's, tanker, motorcycle, etc. I have heard tat some were interchangeable. Also what dates/models exist? Were WWII stye used till recently?? I have seen no good references for this sort of thing - just WWII photos in books and the "uniforms in colour photographs" books done in Russia. If anyone could post images of their collection here it would be a great help. Shawn |

Now hear this story
of a well known ebay seller:
"Here we are offering a real nice and rare collectible. It is a Russian PILOT’S GOGGLES. To my shame, in this case I was taken for a ride by Russians. When I was there, I was shown a real WWII piece, which is extremely rare and desirable collectible. So I’ve bought several of them, paying dearly. But when I opened boxes here, in the USA, I saw, that I received same thing, but only made in 50s. Difference – some materials and numbers on rubber parts. (But design looks the same – I am showing post card of a Soviet WWII Hero – pilot, wearing such a piece!) Russians probably thought, that I wouldn’t figure them out… (What can I tell you – part of doing business in Russia…) " :p

Tal,
According to the "GOST" this set is a 1985 model. Alexei |

These are similar in appearance to WW2 goggles, but if you have the book "Stalin's Eagles" you can see some differences. First is how the strap attaches to the frame. These postwar straps have a large metal ring whereas the wartime ones have a small ring attached to a sizing buckle. Second is the shape of the nose area. I notice on the wartime ones there is a sharp point to it's apex (like in the letter A) yet the postwar ones have a more rounded apex. I also have noticed from wartime pics what looks like to be three vent holes underneath the frames on each side. Just some things to look for.
