"Polar Star" Order.

The Mongolian Order of the Polar Star 3 Type, 1941-1970.

And the reverse. S/N 1892.

Thanks Rusty for the correction of the name. I've no idea why it's called the Pole Star in the book I have.

Here's Type 2. Looks identical to Type 3 except for the writing on the banner:
(1940) screwback.

Rusty,
Great pics. These Mongolian Orders are indeed beautiful pieces.

The Order of the Polar Star was instituted in 1936, it is the most common order for civil and military services. This order is sometimes referred to as the Order of the Pole Star as well.
There are four known types in existence awarded from 1936-1939/40, 1939/40-1941, 1941-1970 and since 1970. Types 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.

Numbers awarded are, approximately 300 for the 1st type, some 2,000 for the 2nd type and about 12,000 and 16,000 respectively for models 3 and 4. The 2nd and 3rd types are exactly the same except that the Uigurian alphabet is used in the Mongolian coat of the arms in the 2nd type whereas the 3rd type has Cyrillic lettering.

All the known types are pictured above.

The current undress ribbon is olive-colored (8 mm), yellow (8 mm), olive-colored (8 mm). Earlier a small metal enameled rectangle was worn. Its colours were : yellow (3 mm), blue (7 mm), yellow (1 mm), yellow/red ornament (6 mm), yellow (1 mm), blue (7 mm), yellow (3 mm).

Eddie.

There are several variations of these basic models.
Here are the different variations I have observed so far, with high and low serial numbers (errors are most likely since I've gotten most of this info on internet)
Type 1, I have no idea, I've only seen two so far SN 751, 792 (both only pictures)

Type 2 V1 Serial number 6 o'clock position, Monetnyi Dvor 12 o'clock, SN low 781 SN high 2654

Type 2 V2 SN 7 o'clock, no MM (might be a picture mistake on a big dealer's website)
I've only seen one so far SN 1158

Type 3 V1 concave reverse, SN 7 o'clock, SN l 2153 SN h 5052

Type 3 V2 flat reverse, SN under screwpost, SN l 5094 SN h 8512

Type 3 V3 flat reverse, SN 6 o'clock SN l 11233 SN h 14828

Type 4 V1 SN l 16459 SN h 29258

To confirm Rusty's previous post, here is an illustration of the various types:

1. Old Mongolian symbol “Soyombo”
1.1 Plain symbol 1924-1939
1.2 Plain symbol with laurel branches 1939-1945
1.3 Plain symbol with a star at the top to commemorate the victory over the militarist Japan 1945-1992

2. Animal stamps displayed as heraldic figures
2.1 With Mongolian inscriptions on the red banner 1940-1941
2.2 With Cyrillic inscriptions on the red banner “БНМАУ” 1941-1960

3. Mechanical gear at the bottom, with a red-blue banner 1960-1992

Thanks,

Eric

Gentlemen,

I was not sure where to post this (here vs Fakes), but wanted to seek your opinions on this piece I purchased.

Order of Polar Star #572.

I generally do not collect Mongolian awards, but was intrigued that this piece had such a low s/n. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,
You've got early and more rare varuiation (on your chart type 2 var 1) with inscription in native Mongolian (Uygur Language). Later they started to use cirylic.
The order is original.
