Re: Order of the Star I Class worn
What I find interesting, is that he is wearing the star on the right side of his breast.

Re: Order of the Star I Class worn
Maybe because it's a foreign award?

Re: Order of the Star I Class worn
Maybe. Is it a personal choice ? on the other pictures I've seen, afghan medals are worn on the left side with the soviet medals.

Re: Order of the Star I Class worn
Is the uniform he wears a soviet era parade uniform or later issue? Is it double or single breasted?

And lapel edges are downpointed; his uniform has breast pockets and also wears a patch in the left sleeve.

Fake Orders.
Hello to ALL,
At one time, I though that any Order of the Star with a soldered on ring at the top was fake... and I have seen some pretty bad fakes. Well I saw a vendor selling several Order of the Stars, 2nd cl, type 2 with missing rings. Someone has cut the top rings off all these orders. Don't know why, but my reasoning is that they must have thought that these were made of silver and wanted these melted down; then realized that these orders were made of silver plated brass(?). I included an uncut order next to it for your trained eyes to look at. Also a photo of three fake orders with soldered on rings. These were cast made orders with poor details on the obverse side. Man, it is getting tough to collect Afghan stuff too. Dat |

Possible fake Order of the Star???
OK, there are a few vendors of that sell these Afghan medals/orders here and the quality and quantity are much less than when I was here last in 2005.
I saw this Order of the Star today and although it was really nice and look real enough, I put it back because the reverse center of the star was brighter....a lot brighter... than the rest of the medal. I think that someone buffed out the original Dari number of 3 or 2; punch in the new number 1 and replated the order. All there classes of this order looks identical with the exception of the gold plating and number on the back. What do you think? Dat |

Re: Possible fake Order of the Star???
The hue and finish of the medal somehow look "flatter" than other ones I've seen and own. This is difficult to judge off of a photo.
