This badge was a screwback that was converted to a pinback. Rusty.

It wasn't too common but was done by some.
A friend owns a Red Star from Afganistan with a pinback conversion. I have also seen a Kutuzon and Khmelnitsky with pinbacks... Rusty.

I have seen some recently-made ALUMINUM "Guards" badges with pinback attachments. Not sure of the origin or purpose, though.

Guys,
I think it could be a conversion, or... just a repair :) This guy just refused to make holes in his tunic: |

roman tavast guard badges
hi guys,
actually they made guards badges in Tallinn and i think they are late war issues. Since after the war this factory changed his name to TALLINNA METALLIMÄRK and also screwplates weared the same name. They used after war on the badges screwplates where name ROMAN TAVAST was polished off. So it must be war time badges. I have many guards badges in my collection but noone of them is made by roman tavast. If you compare a TAVAST badge with others you see how good quality it really is it's just perfect... i try to find myself also one of these... Lauri |

Roman Tavast
Hello,
Roman Tavast's factory was taken from him immediately in 1940, and he was executed in Siberia in 1942. I have never seen any Soviet badge with a Roman Tavast screwplate that I believed was the proper screwplate. Does anyone have any evidence that there are Soviet badges with Roman Tavast screwplates? It seems unlikely that the Soviets would issue a badge with his name on the screwplate. The name of the factory was changed from Roman Tavast to Metallmärk February 11, 1941, although the Tavast name was used under the German occupation. roman tavast guard badges
Hi guys,
I think you are looking for this badge. But on the screwplate is the name Metallmärk. I think the Tallin guards badges are a little bit smaller than the soviet ones and they have another screwbase post. regards Andreas Last edited by Alfred; 11-25-2004 at 11:58 PM. |

dannybou,
It's a post WWII example. I would date it into the late 60's and maybe early 70's. Rusty.
